The next American Idol.. er, President

A little known fact is that when I moved here to DC almost two months ago, I started meeting up with a group of people to have dinner and watch American Idol twice a week. We each had our favorites, mine being Blake, and as soon as an episode was over we'd sit around calling to vote for them on our cell phones.

Once that girl who wasn't Melinda won, there was a subtle void in my life. No more free dinner, no more rooting for someone I don't really care about, no more making fun of a contestant for doing a bad job.

That is, until the New Hampshire presidential debates!

I got together with the very same people I used to watch Idol with. We had dinner, and watched the Democrats debate. As soon as it was over, I was ready to pick up my phone and start voting. I knew I couldn't, but I sure wanted to. I was very disappointed that I couldn't watch it again the next day to see one of them get voted off.

A couple of days later we got together and did the same thing for the Republican debate.

Here in DC, going from American Idol to the debates seems like a natural transition.

I never did mind about the little things

I love Wikipediaing random stuff, like mathematicians who committed suicide and secret societies.

Today I looked up Enrique Iglesias on a whim and the ONLY reason I mention it is because of something someone wrote about him in information about his personal life. A citation is definitely needed for this "fact."

Iglesias has been linked to rumors of romantic relationships with a number of women: the Miss Universe Alicia Machado; the model/actress and Miami resident Sofia Vergara; the pop singer Christina Aguilera; and the actress Jennifer Love Hewitt. More recently, he has reputedly been dating the Russian tennis player, Anna Kournikova for a number of years. Iglesias reportedly has a very small penis.

Rock and Roll Terrorist

I have a friend who works for a metal label. The friend got this email from a band called Motive. Look out for them, apparently they're going to be HUGE!

Attached is an mp3 of our song "Rock And Roll Terrorist".

This is a great song about how music has no boundaries, passports and borders should not apply to music & bands, it's all out METAL/THRASH energy!!!! The song is built around the perfect formula of:

Intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/solo/chorus/verse/chorus/out = Gold/Platinum Record.

With all the shit happening in the world, this is THE ANTHEM of the times!!!!
We are cut from the same molds as Slayer, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, & Metallica = All Gold and All Platinum.

All due respect to you and the label, but you have not one band of this caliber. YOU need MOTIVE. My vocals blow away ALL of the metalcore singers & black metal singers, EVERYONE of them. Those bands can never sell BIG TIME, MOTIVE COULD. We are more marketable than most of your bands as well. Cool name & logo, strong lyrics, we look good, but we are not freaks, and a live show that kills it EVERY TIME, PLUS VOCALS YOU CAN ACTUALLY SING ALONG TO!!

Every review we get says "Songs ready for radio, great song structure, cool chorus, strong riffs, sick leads" etc..

As always, we have a Van, Trailer, 320+ shows in 22 states, reviews, interviews and playlists from all over the WORLD and the ability to to the recording ourselves, you sell it. Hope to hear from you.

Don't let a band like ours waste away on the sidelines.

Sincerely,
Steve Buschart

P.S. MYSPACE BANDS are not real bands, get in the VAN and shut up!!!!!

Did you catch where he mentioned that they look good, and are not freaks?
You can decide for yourself. Take a good look at Motive's singer, and the author of this email, Steve, or Stevil, as he's known on MySpace:

What the Wockenfuss?

I have this friend Dan who lives in Philadelphia. We're pen pals, grade school style, so we send each other letters through the mail, and also mix cds that we make for each other, and even surprise presents.

He once told me that his favorite breakfast cereal is Cracklin' Oat Bran, and that they don't make it anymore. Well, they do and I saw a box of it at a grocery store in Minneapolis, so I took it to the post office and mailed it to him.

Here's a photo he took to show me the condition it was in when it got to his house:

Shortly after that he sent me two baseball cards from the early 80's that he found of my favorite baseball team, the Detroit Tigers.

One of these cards is of former Tigers catcher, John Wockenfuss.

Ever since then, a day doesn't go by where Dan and I don't use the word "wockenfuss" as a verb (wockenfuss off), or a noun (what the wockenfuss) in communicating with each other. Give it a try, it's fun to say. Especially if you're a Tigers fan.

Bottoms up

Growing up in Michigan, I began drinking Vernors Ginger Ale as a kid. Especially when I was sick, because word on the Michigan streets was that it would cure what ales you. Heh.

While I was in Michigan last week, I stocked up on the stuff, because it isn't something you can just pick up at 7-Eleven (unless you're in a Michigan 7-Eleven, of course).

In Minneapolis, there was one grocery store that sold six packs of it, but they didn't have diet Vernors, and that's how I drink it.

I can only assume that DC is no different when it comes to depriving me of the soda I dig the most, and now I'm down to my very last 2 liter. After that, it's back to drinking booze.

Land of opportunity

Here I am in Washington, DC.

From what I've seen of it, it's a great place. What I've seen of it is basically the 4 white walls of my bedroom. I moved in yesterday, and like I said, it is a great place.

Yesterday for dinner I had Chinese food. Despite the uneventful first weekend here in my new city, the fortune I got from my fortune cookie leaves me with nothing but the highest expectations for what's to come.
